Indian American Ajay Banga has taken over as President of World Bank, making him the first person of colour to head either of the two global financial institutions, World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
Notably, on May 3, 2023, Executive Directors of World Bank selected Ajay Banga, aged 63, as the 14th President of World Bank for a five-year term.
Earlier, in February, this year, United States’ President Joe Biden announced that U.S. would nominate Ajay Banga to lead the World Bank.
