It happens nothing less than irony that when the world celebrated 50th anniversary of Chipko Movement, an initiative for preserving trees that began in the Himalayan state on March 27, 1973, Uttarakhand Cabinet recently nodded the amendment of the Uttar Pradesh Protection of Trees Act, 1976, which is applicable in Uttarakhand at present.
