I.T.M. DEHRADUN CELEBRATES HIMALAYA DAY

DEHRADUN, Sep. 9, 2022 (TBINN)

Today Himalaya Day was celebrated in capital city of Uttarakhand at Nagar Nigam’s town hall with full committed spirits for the Himalaya.

The program was arranged collectively by Hindustan and I.T.M. Dehradun. Chief Guest of the program was Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who lauded the efforts of I.T.M. Dehradun and its Chairman Nishant Thapliyal for their concern towards Himalayas, and environment. I.T.M. Dehradun keeps creating awareness among masses through various means towards Himalayan sensitivity and for environmental concerns.

Chairman of I.T.M. Dehradun maintained that Himalayas play an important role in saving and maintaining nature and protecting the country from adverse weather conditions. Apart from being rich in bio-diversity of flowers and fauna, the Himalayan range is also responsible for bringing rain to the country. Himalaya Day is also an excellent day to raise awareness among the general public and bring about community participation in conservation activities, I.T.M. Dehradun’s Chairman Nishant Thapliyal added.

Himalaya Day 2022 was observed under the theme Himalayas will be safe only when the interests of its residents are protected. It is pertinent to tell here that this day is celebrated to mark the importance of the Himalayas.

As a matter of concern, the Himalayan hill cities face many challenges due to poor building planning and design, poor infra-structure like roads, water supply, sewage etc. and unprecedented felling of trees. This results in serious ecological issues.

The day is observed highlighting that there is an urgent need to develop eco-sensitive hill town plans and designs. The Himalayas are a source of strength and a valuable heritage for the entire world. So it needs to be protected. Apart from promoting scientific knowledge, the day helps to raise awareness and community participation. The program was attended by a distinguished gathering including editor of Hindustan who stood for the safeguard of Himalayas and environment.

Notably, on September 9, 2015 this day was officially declared as Himalaya Day by the then chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat. Since then, I.T.M. Dehradun has taken up the responsibility of creating awareness among students and all to take care of Himalayas and the environment.
