DEHRADUN, April 24, 2023 (TBINN) Unconfirmed reports say that a survey showing temples too built on Forest Land has compelled Uttarakhand Government to give up anti-encroachment drive.
Reportedly, preliminary survey conducted by the Forest Department revealed that ancient temples like famous Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar and Garjia Devi in Ramnagar were also built on the encroached land belonging to the Forest Department.
Officials on condition of anonymity said government has been forced to stall its anti-encroachment drive as several famous temples built before 1980 stand on Forest Land. It was in 1983 that the Rajaji National Park came into existence. The Forest Law turned stringent after that only.
Notably, government planned to remove all encroachments on Forest Land. But, subsequent surveys revealed that apart from mazars, many ancient temples also stand on the Forest Land.
In the light of this development, it is a pertinent question that why proper home work is not done by the concerned department and government before going in to any drive and escape embarrassment.
