District Magistrate of Kanpur Vishakh G. Aiyyar informed media today that the tractor-trolley’s accident happened, as per the eye witnesses, due to the inebriated state of driver.
Though every angle which can be responsible for the accident, is being examined, but it is being felt that inebriated state of driver pushed so many lives to death, Kanpur’s D.M. Aiyyar added.
Notably, 26 persons lost lives in the accident yesterday. Team of 11 doctors was called in at C.H.C. who conducted postmortem of the dead in night itself, after which, bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased.
Hunt for the driver of tractor-trolley is on who fled the scene after accident which claimed lives of 12 women, nine children and five infants. The accident happened yesterday night on road to Bheetargaon when a tractor-trolley turned and fell in a pond full of water. Rescue operation continued till late night. Treatment of the injured is going on.
According to the villagers, after Mundan Ceremony of the child, tractor-trolley halted at a dhaaba where all had tea. Thereafter, the trolley stopped at a Wine Shop where some of the trolley’s occupants, including driver consumed liquor. Women told them not to drink, but their appeal fell on deaf ears.
The tractor-trolley has been pulled out of the pond and brought to the police station. Sufferers complained of insufficient arrangements by the administration regarding ambulances and doctors. Villagers say some injured were taken to hospitals on two wheelers even. In hospital, they complain, there was no doctor. Commotion and mismanagement prevailed at C.H.C. Bheetargaon, sufferers lament.
