Rajya Sabha unanimously passed the Women’s Reservation Bill today on September 21, 2023.
The bill reserves 33 per cent of seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women for 15 years. The bill was tabled in Parliament on September 19, 2023. Bill was passed after a debate among M.P.s from across party lines. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called the moment historic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present during the voting process.
Lok Sabha passed the bill with the support of a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting.
