Being the ruling party in Municipal Corporation Delhi, the win comes as big relief for Aam Aadmi Party as M.C.D. elected a new Mayor and a Deputy Mayor. The high-stakes polls were held at a time when the civic body is yet to elect the powerful Standing Committee, which plays an important role in local civic governance. In this election, incumbent Mayor Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party was pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Councillor from Greater Kailash Shikha Rai.
Similarly, incumbent Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal of A.A.P. took over on B.J.P.’s Soni Pandey from the Sonia Vihar Ward in East Delhi.
