Lakhs of people offered ‘tarpan’ on the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya across West Bengal today, marking the beginning of festive season with Durga Puja barely six days away.
The day started with people paying obeisance to their forefathers on the banks of Hooghly and other rivers and water bodies across the state.
