SIX ACCUSED CHARGE-SHEETED BY C.B.I. IN MANIPUR VIOLENCE CASE

Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge-sheet against six accused and a report against one Child in Conflict with the Law (C.C.L.) in the Manipur Viral Video Case.

The charge-sheet and the report were submitted before the Special Judge of the C.B.I. Court at Guwahati. Notably, since one of the accused is minor in the case, so the investigation agency submitted a report before the court.

“CBI had registered a case on the request of Manipur Government & further notification from Government of India and taken over the investigation of the Case Crime No. 110(06)/2023 dated 21.06.2023 of NSK Police Station, District-Thoubal,” the probe agency revealed.

In the charge-sheet, it has been alleged that, on May 4, 2023 a mob of 900 to1000, armed with weapons entered B Phainom Village, vandalised and set houses ablaze and looted properties. The mob further allegedly committed murders and sexually assaulted women. It was further alleged that two family members of one of the victims were also killed in the incident.

The C.B.I.’s probe revealed that accused were involved in the incident. Charge-sheet was filed, as per the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Further investigation is continuing including the identification of other accused involved in the offences beside other aspects of the case, C.B.I. stated.

Notably, ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur after Tribal Solidarity March, called by All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur (A.T.S.U.M.) to oppose the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the S.T. Category. Banking and A.T.M. facilities too have been affected due to internet interruptions.
