SEVERED HAND SUCCESSFULLY REATTACHED AT A.I.I.M.S. HRISHIKESH

Effectiveness of air ambulance service in the predominantly mountainous state of Uttarakhand happened to be at its example best when doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (A.I.I.M.S.) Hrishikesh were successful in reattaching the amputated hand of a labourer after he was brought to the hospital by an air ambulance on time.

Notably, Shariff Ansari of remote Dharchula Town located near the Indo- Nepal Border in Pithoragarh District met with an accident while working on a mortar machine and his right hand got severed from the body.

Fortunately Shariff Ansari was able to get the benefit of an air ambulance which airlifted him to A.I.I.M.S. Hrishikesh saving the vital time fir medical pricedures. A team of trauma and plastic surgeons alongwith other doctors received the patient at A.I.I.M.S. Hrishikesh. The severed limb of Shariff Ansari was kept wrapped in a clean towel and was kept in an ice box. Thus, the team of doctors were able to reattach the hand of patient after a five-hour long surgical procedure which involved repairing of the damaged blood vessels and bone.

Team was led by Head of Department of Trauma Dr Qamar Ahmed and HoD of Plastic Surgery Department Dr Vishal Mago and included surgeons of Trauma Department Dr Niraj Kumar, Dr Sunil Kumar and Dr Akshay Kapoor and Dr Niraj Rao of Plastic Surgery Department who did a noble and commendable work.
