RAHUL GANDHI DISQUALIFIED AS LOK SABHA M.P.

NEW DELHI, Mar. 24, 2023 (TBINN)

Rahul Gandhi, leader of Congress, has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha M.P. following his conviction in the criminal defamation case over his Modi surname remark.

Disqualification is said to be effective from March 23, 2023, the date of conviction. Former Congress’ president represents the Wayanad Constituency of Kerala in the Lower House.

Notabky, a court in Surat on Thursday sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in the above mentioned case filed against him. The court also granted him bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow him appeal in a higher court.

Thereafter, several Opposition leaders have rallied behind Rahul and hit out at the government and accused Bhartiya Janta Party of targeting political opponents.
