SAFAI (Etawah), Oct. 11, 2022 (TBINN)

Hours after the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, his body arrived in Safai, Mulayam’s native village near Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, and was kept in a pandal for people who thronged there for a darshan.

My respected father and Netaji to all is no more, his son Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi. As Akhilesh broke down on receiving his father’s body, his uncle Shivpal Yadav, often at loggerheads with him, placed a hand on his shoulder.

Later, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Adityanath and some other U.P. ‘s Bhartiya Janta Party leaders arrived to pay their respects. The funeral will take place with full state honours in Safai.

Notably, the village falls in Jaswantnagar, the constituency from where he was elected to the State assembly the first time in 1967, representing Ram Manohar Lohia’s Sanyukt Socialist Party.

Mulayam Singh, who was born in a family of farmers and went on to spawn the state’s most prominent political clan, died at a Gurugram hospital on Monday after a prolonged illness. The cremation will take place on Tuesday at his native Saifai Village in Uttar Pradesh.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders cutting across the political spectrum condoled the death of Mulayam Singh as they termed his demise an irreparable loss that marks the end of an era in Indian politics.

Top political leaders also took to Twitter to express their condolences on the passing away of veteran Samajwadi leader with Congress’ president Sonia Gandhi saying that the voice of socialist ideas has fallen silent with the demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
