LAST SECTION OF ESCAPE-PIPE LEFT TO BE PUSHED INSIDE TUNNEL FOR RESCUING WORKERS

UTTARKASHI, Nov. 28, 2023 (TBINN)

Reportedly, rescue work has crossed through 60-metre stretch of rubble in Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand today, ending the ordeal of 41 workers trapped inside for 16 days.

A senior Uttarakhand Government’s official at the site said drilling was complete. Asked by reporters, N.H.I.D.C.L. managing director Mahmood Ahmed did not immediately confirm the development, but said the last section of the escape pipe was being pushed through the drilled passage.

A team of doctors are at the incident location. There are 41 ambulances, one for each worker, and two helicopters if anyone needs immediate hospitalisation. Further, the Air Force will also be involved, if needed, an official at site, said, adding that a Chinook helicopter is also stationed in Chinyalisaur, for airlifting the workers in case of any medical emergency.

Not just physical care but the authorities are also ready to provide mental care to the workers.

Notably, a portion of the tunnel collapsed on November 12, 2023, blocking the exit of 41 workers inside.
