Udan Serial famed Kavita Chaudhary who is known for her role as an I.P.S. Officer Kalyani Singh in the serial of Doordarshan, is no more now. She was 67 years of age.
Kavita Chaudhary’s demise has been confirmed by fellow actor Anang Desai, who was her batchmate at the National School of Drama.
According to Kavita Chaudhary’s nephew, Ajay Sayal, she had been admitted to Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar for the past three to four days, where she was undergoing medical treatment.
Actress Kavita Chaudhary had been battling cancer for the last few years. Reportedly, she took her last breath in the hospital itself.
It has been further informed by Ajay Sayal that Kavita Chaudhary’s last rites are being performed in Amritsar, Punjab.
Notably, Kavita Chaudhary who started her career in early 1980s, is best known for her portrayal of I.P.S. Officer Kalyani Singh in the Doordarshan television series Udaan. She is also known for her appearances in very popular Surf Detergent commercials dyring late 1980s. Kavita played ‘Lalitaji’ in the commercial – a housewife who always made the right choice when it came to spending money.
Kavita Chaudhary was born in Kolkata. She is the younger sister of police officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who served as an inspiration for her character in Udaan. Kanchan was only the second Woman I.P.S. Officer after Kiran Bedi and the first woman to become DGP of a state of Uttarakhand. Her sister Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya died in 2019.
