In a fresh setback to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, Pakistan’s top election body today disqualified him for five years following his conviction in a corruption case.
In a notification issued today, the Election Commission of Pakistan said that the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was disqualified after being found guilty of corrupt practices under Section 167 of the Elections Act, 2017 and his sentencing for three years.
The E.C.P. declared Imran Khan, aged 70, disqualified under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution read with Section 232 of the Elections Act, 2017.
