HEAVY RAIN & FALLING BOULDERS DISRUPT LIFE IN UTTARAKHAND

DEHRADUN, Jul. 25, 2023 (TBINN)

Falling of boulders in parts of Uttarakhand since the past few days have compelled traffic to remain suspended.

Besides, pilgrims on the Yamunotri and Badrinath route have been halted due to inclement weather conditions.

Mireover, warnings have been issued for heavy rain and thunderstorms in all districts of Uttarakhand, with very heavy rain predicted from July 26, 2023 in several districts.

An Orange Alert has been sounded for districts of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Champawat and Nainital. Warnings of heavy to very heavy rains triggering minor to medium land-slides, resulting in the blocking or washing out of highways is anticipated on July 28, 2023 mainly in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts.

As per the state government, National Highway (NH-7) near Gauchar Kameda faces obstructions with around 100 metres of road destroyed owing to heavy rains the previous night. As said by officials, related government departments and bodies are working on a war footing to restore the road as soon as possible.

Notably, for next two or three days, the route will remain blocked for passengers and vehicles going to Badrinath Dhaam.

In Gauchar Bhatnagar five vehicles parked on side of the road were buried in the falling debris. Rescue teams have reached the spot to clear the debris. Traffic is also suspended as boulders continued to fall at several places on the Yamunotri Highway for the last three days.
