Incident occurred despite the deployment of a large number of security personnel in the area

The miscreants have once again torched five houses at the New Checkon area in Manipur’s capital Imphal.
It is predominantly a Kuki locality in the Imphal East District. The houses burnt belonged to both Kuki and Meitei communities. Fire Brigade doused the fire before it could spread.
Incident occurred despite the deployment of a large number of security personnel in the area. A crowd gathered at the site after the incident and tried to enter the area. Security forces dispersed them by firing tear gas shells.
Situation was tense when reports last came in. Security has been further tightened to thwart any untoward incident in the state. Still, such unfortunate incidents happen.
