FIVE M.P.s INCLUDING ONE OF B.J.P. PROTEST THAROOR's REMOVAL AS CHAIRMAN OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON I.T.

NEW DELHI, Sep. 25, 2022 (TBINN)

It has come to light that five Members of Parliament, including one from the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday in protest of the Union Government’s decision to withdraw Congress’ M.P. Shashi Tharoor’s Chairmanship of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology.

Anil Agarwal of B.J.P., C.P.M.’s John Brittas, T.M.C.’s Mohua Moitra, D.M.K.’s T. Sumathy, and Congress’ Karti Chidambaram, each a member of the Tharoor-led House panel, said they were shocked that the chairpersonship of their committee was changed in the middle of the 17th Lok Sabha when allocation of committees is generally decided at the convening of a Lok Sabha and remains the case until it is dissolved, except in exceptional circumstances.

Asserting high productivity of the House-panel under Tharoor’s leadership, the M.P.s said the I.T. Committee also provided a forum for building consensus across political parties on issues of emerging technology and its repercussions for citizens.
