An Elephant and a Bluebuck have died after being run-over by an express train near Kotdwar Railway Station in Uttarakhand, officials informed.
Reportedly, accident occurred about 1.5 kilometre away from Kotdwar Railway Station, Sub Divisional Officer of Najibabad Division Rajiv Kumar said.
It is said that animals were knocked down by the newly launched express train that runs between Kotdwar and Delhi when these suddenly came on the tracks, Rajiv Kumar added.
Officials of Forest Department said the train must have been at a speed of more than 100 kmph at the time of accident. Speeding train hit the Bluebuck first at gate Number 16 and then the elephant, aged 10 years, about 700 meters from there, Rajiv Kumar said.
