A 22-year-old man has even arrested from his flat in West Bengal’s Kolkata for allegedly duping a retired doctor of Rs 10.50 lakh posing as a treasury officer on a phone call, by Cyber Cell Wing of Uttarakhand Police, a senior official disclosed.
Uttarakhand Police also recovered 16 sim cards, six debit cards and two mobile phones from the accused, identified as Abhishek Shaw, Senior superintendent of Police, Special Task Force, Ayush Agarwal said.
Eatlier, Abhishek Shaw was arrested by Kolkata Police for cyber fraud but continued to commit similar criminal activities after coming out of jail.
It is to be reminded here that one Harish Lal, a resident of Nainital District’s Haldwani, had given a complaint to the Haldwani Police Station on October 26, 2022, that an unidentified caller duped him of Rs 10.50 lakh by posing as a Treasury Officer, Senior Superintendent of Police (S.T.F.), Ayush Agarwal said adding that investigation of the matter was subsequently transferred to the Cyber Crime Wing.
Further during investigation, it came to light hat the duped money was withdrawn in West Bengal and Bihar through different A.T.M.s. Subsequently, a team was immediately sent there. For 15 days, the team scanned C.C.T.V. clips and searched the possible areas and also conducted raids in Bihar’s Hajipur, Vaishali and West Bengal’s Kolkata, S.S.P. (S.T.F.) of Uttarakhand Police disclosed.
Later, team of Uttarakhand Police arrested the accused, Abhishek Shaw, a resident of Vaishali in Bihar, from his flat in Kolkata’s Kasba Locality. After arrest, the accused has been brought to Uttarakhand on transit remand, he informed.
