World’s first Polar Bear Hotel in China’s far North-eastern Heilongjiang Povince, draws both guests and criticism for its central feature containing live Polar Bears.
Visitors look at polar bears at an enclosure inside a hotel at a Polarland-themed park in Harbin, capital of North-East China’s Heilongjiang Province.
The Polar Bear Hotel, part of the Harbin Polarland theme park in Heilongjiang’s capital and largest city, Harbin, promises round-the-clock Polar Bear viewing from all 21 guest rooms.
Snaps and videos from Chinese state media feature the bears in an enclosure under harsh warm lights, surrounded by artificial ice and a small pool of water.
Yang Liu, a spokeswoman for Harbin Polarland, told tge Press that indoor area is only part of the bears’ total enclosure and that animals are allowed outside when the air quality and temperature permits them to do so. The enclosure has been developed in line with zoos around the world, for it has large windows from which humans can see the bears.
But, animal rights’ organisations react sharply to the business model that requires the animal to stay away from its natural habitat into the glass boxes.
