As per a report, a total of 75 bridges in the hill state of Uttarakhand are presently facing the havoc of Monsoon rains, floods and frequent land-slides.
These have been found unsafe, as per a safety audit carried out by the State Public Works Department (P.W.D.) across Uttarakhand. Pankaj Pandey, Uttarakhand Secretary of P.W.D. said that P.W.D. divisions have been instructed to close movement on these unsafe bridges immediately.
Earlier, Uttarakhand Government ordered a security audit of all the bridges in the hill state while Uttarakhand P.W.D.,Tourism and Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj ordered an inquiry into the causes of the recent bridge collapse over river Malan in Kotdwar.
Notably, a total of 39 bridges have collapsed in the hill state during the past six years.
