DEHRADUN, May 12, 2024 (TBINN)
It is time now that the results of Class 12th of different boards have started coming out. Some boards have declared results of Intermediate and some are soon to do so. This is a time when pass-outs of Class 12th find themselves at a crossroads – where to go and where to take admissions for undergraduate courses!
Though very many options allure students, but a major confusion that confronts students is whether to take admission in a Private University or a college affiliated with a Government University!
Students, at this point, can easily get baffled by the enticing advertisements put forth by private universities. Photographs and animated stupendous advertisements by private universities, at times, dominate the fancy of aspiring students.
However, the real core of undergraduate courses needs to be focussed while opting for an institution for higher education. Imposing infra and glamour, escorted with impractical promises, pull students towards private universities, but do these impart profound education and design a student’s career usually remains unattended and lost there amid counseling and presentations based on building castles in the air.
Therefore, keeping feet on the ground and heads focused on career-making, students can opt for a college affiliated with any Government University with full confidence and reliability. From the first University in India being established at Kolkata as Calcutta University in 1857 by the British, India has come a long way in establishing Government universities in India.
* Major difference between a Private University and a college affiliated with Government University is that Private University is money-driven, whereas, a college affiliated with Government University is education-driven. The reason is that Private Universities are funded by private pockets, which in any case, want to have financial benefits, at any cost. Whereas, colleges affiliated with Government Universities are inspired to run with a noble mission of imparting quality education even to economically weaker students.
* State universities in India are known for providing education to all, while deemed private universities are basically meant to offer advanced courses as a priority.
* Private universities are autonomous bodies that have more flexibility and independence which usually sway towards the interests of management of a Private University. On the other side, in case of a college affiliated with a Government University, government norms are to be strictly followed, else affiliation gets endangered.
* Private universities offer more specialized programs and may have lower class sizes. Whereas, colleges affiliated with Government universities offer all sorts of programs.
* Colleges affiliated with Government universities, also known as state universities, are generally cheaper than private universities and offer scholarships, reservations and other perks. Private universities generally do this at a very low scale just to save the face.
* It is pertinent to mention here that Government of India delegated the responsibility of distribution of education to every corner of the country through the state government by an act passed in 1950. It was the responsibility of state governments at that time to set up universities for higher education throughout the state. This sentiment still prevails with colleges affiliated with Government universities.
* Another amendment in the Act of 1950 was passed in 1976 which divided the responsibility of the universities among the state and Central governments. There are certain privileged colleges like Institute of Technology and Management, Dehradun, which offer courses affiliated to State and Central universities, both.
* The State or Government universities are also responsible to see that its affiliated colleges conform to the guidelines set up by a body known as the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.). Thus, sincere working in colleges affiliated to Government University is ensured.
* The Deemed Universities can be called exceptional universities which are very soon to be deemed as universities. This could only be passed by the U.G.C. under Section 3 of the U.G.C. Act of 1956 which would allow any educational institute, on the advice of the Central Government, to be deemed as a university. But how long will be the period ‘soon’ last cannot be confirmed, whereas, a college affiliated with a Government University provides a student with a degree from a full-fledged Government University valid all over.
* A State or Government university, to which any college is affiliated, is created when legislation is passed by the state government, whereas privately deemed universities are passed as ‘deemed to be a university’ by the U.G.C. under section 3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. Therefore, it can be well understood that the status of a degree attained from a college affiliated with any Government University is higher and credible.
* A State University which gives affiliation to colleges, is funded and established from scratch by the state government and governed by the guidelines laid by the U.G.C. But, private Deemed Universities are usually funded by a private player formerly known as only educational institutes. Naturally, the interests of students are better taken care of at colleges affiliated with any Government University.
* The fee structure in colleges affiliated with Government College has to be designed so that it would not become hefty and prove to be a problem for the less fortunate students to pay the fee. But Private Universities have complete freedom in designing their own courses and fee structures. The H.R.D. Ministry or the U.G.C. still doesn’t have any control over the fee structure of the Private or Deemed universities and they enjoy complete autonomy over such matters.
* Colleges affiliated with Government universities are regularly monitored by government agencies in their day-to-day working, whereas, Private universities hardly happen to be under any eye for a check on their working. With the Government evolving at every step to a college affiliated with a Government University, offers more credibility and certainty to a student’s education and career as Placements become a Sure Factor with degree from such colleges.
* Colleges affiliated with Government University are very strict and careful in handling the fresh students, as per the norms of the Government and Government University. Thus, the campus of any college affiliated with a Government University like I.T.M. College, Dehradun, ensures that the entire campus or blocks of the college are Ragging-Free!
The above factors are hopefully good enough to stand as a testimony in favour of colleges affiliated with Government University like I.T.M. Dehradun, for world-class Higher Education and sure shot Placements
