Looking for game in 1823, a British Army officer, Captain Frederick Young and the then superintendent of Dehradun Frederick J. Shore, climbed up the Mussoorie Ridge
from Dehradun.
Both found plenty of it in the hills. Soon, Captain Young erected a shooting box on the ridge.
In today’s time, it is called the first construction in the Queen of Hills and the time of construction is considered the moment of birth of the town.
A day back, Mussoorie celebrated 200 years of its establishment. Various events were held across town, where descendants of Captain Young and of
Major Edmund Swetenham, who built the
Cloud End Estate, came to Mussoorie to participate in celebrations to mark 200th birth anniversary of the hill town.
