DEHRADUN, June 8, 2024 (TBINN)
Uttarakhand Police is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (M.E.A.), Intelligence Bureau (I.B.) and other agencies concerned to rescue at least seven men from Uttarakhand and other parts of India who are, reportedly, being held hostage in Myanmar, Dehradun’s Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh said. Notably, a Raiwala resident Jiya Gautam met S.P. Dehradun on Wednesday and said that her brother Vidhan Gautam, who had gone to Dubai in March this year to work in the I.T. Sector returned home in May with his seven other Indian colleagues.
Thereafter, In May, a Gujarat agent Jai Joshi approached her brother on a video call and told him and his seven companions that they will get a job in a big I.T. company in Thailand with a good salary. For this, all of them were screened through video calls for the job. Agent further told them that they had been selected by an I.T. company in Bangkok that would also bear their expenses regarding shifting from India to Bangkok for work. Jiya Gautam told police that the agent Joshi took all eight men from Delhi to Bangkok on May 21, 2024, but after this, she could not contact her brother Vidhan Gautam.
On contact, the agent said that Vidhan was busy with his job, due to which, he could not talk to his family. After this conversation with the agent Joshi, Jiya lost cintact with the Gujarat agent too. However, Jiya said that she received a WhatsApp call from her brother after a few days and he said that he and others were cheated by the agent. As per Jiya, Vidhan also claimed that they all were kidnapped from Bangkok Airport by Joshi’s associates at gun-point and were made to cross the border to Myanmar where they were being held as hostages.
Further Jiya maintained that complainant said that as per her brother, there were about 200 hostages from several countries including about 70 people from India, including 10 from Uttarakhand. It has been complained that they are being allegedly harassed by Gujarat agent and his men to indulge in cyber fraud activities. Jiya is scared that the hostages who do not follow orders of abductors for committing cyber fraud can also be killed.
