It is well known that India’s obsession with fair skin is not new. The reason why fairness creams and skin-lightening techniques still exist on the market proves this fascination is far from over.
Still there is an inclination to prefer fair-skinned, picture-perfect brides for sons. Due to these standards of beauty, this could mean a lot of trauma and stress for women, at times.
Such an obsession with fair skin took an ugly turn with a couple based at Chattisgarh. Reportedly, in Chhattisgarh’s Durg District, a 30-year-old woman allegedly used an axe to kill her husband as she got fed up with constant taunting over her dark skin by her husband, as per authorities.
Police arrested Sangeeta Sonwani for allegedly killing her husband, Anant Sonwani, aged 40, in Amleshwar Village, Devansh Rathore, Sub-Divisional Officer of Patan Area said. According to the preliminary investigation, allegedly, victim used to harass his wife about her dark skin and call her ugly. Police claimed that the couple had previously argued about the issue several times. The couple argued again and this time Sangeeta attacked her husband with an axe kept at home and killed him in a fit of rage.
